Federal Government Proposal: Meetings, Banquets and Events – The Forgotten Sector

The Small Business Event Services Association (SBESA) has members that sit in a work group created for the industry and led by the Hon. Lisa MacLeod MPP, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism, and Culture Industries and Kevin Finnerty, Assistant Deputy Minister, Culture Division, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.  The work group recently submitted a federal proposal pleading for immediate support for our industry on April 29, 2021.  The proposal was submitted to Kevin Finnerty and Tony Marzotto, Director, Tourism Policy and Research, Tourism, Culture And Sport.  Some highlights of the proposal includes supporting the hardest hit, expanding the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA) immediately to $100,000 with a significant forgivable portion, extending the Canadian Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) until June 2022 and increasing the CEWS subsidy amount to 85% of wages, extending the Canadian Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) until June 2022, increasing or removing the $300,000 cap to allow larger businesses and businesses with multiple facilities to benefit from the program , amending the Highly Affected Sectors Credit Program (HASCAP) to include a significant forgivable portion, as well as a lower interest rate, and sector specific funding to name a few.
